The weather is getting colder....

We are well into the year and the chills of winter are already apparent. We have nuch happening with some great talks and discussions by our members. It is a time of year when we all slow down a little. If you are thinking of coming to the healing circle, contact us first as time and frequency may change with the onset of winter. We are also considering holding our meditation less frequently over winter.

Can you help us out?

There are always things we would like help with. If you are able to help, get hold of us and let us know. We could use a help with publicity, putting up posters, keeping the website up to date, maintaining our building, offering a talk, assisting with an event or whatever. We will certainly be needing all the help we can as we get closer to the time when we host the national convention next January.

Wireless Internet

wifiWe now have wireless internet working in our rooms. This will enable us to project the internet directly onto our screen to view content from the internet. For example, Murray Stentiford in Auckland will be giving us a talk over the internet from Auckland using Skype on May 26th.

Follow up to the Integral theosophy workshop

integral logoTS logoworkshopWe have had a number of fruitful talks about the follow up from the Integral Theosophy weekend workshop. There was a real interest in building a sense of community and working with the diversity we have within us. We looked in particular about our Wednesday night talks and realised it is good to expand out what they might be. As well as more academic topics we can have shared discussions, video from the internet, experiential evenings and much more. Aelred gave us a talking stick to help the discussions flow and give everyone a voice. There is plenty to explore. There is more detail on our website about what was discussed during the follow up meeting and a 10 minute video summary of the weekend back on our homepage. We hope to take the workshop to other areas in the country as it provides a good framework to explore who we are and how we might develop in the future.

Noticeboard

We now have a noticeboard behind the tea and coffee table, where we can put notices and you will note places where comments and suggestions are invited.

Helping out the Theosophical Society in Chile

TS building damageDuring the devastating earthquake in Chile, the Theosophical Society buildings in Santiago were damaged and they need $20,000 to repair it. Our committee decided to give $50.00 to help them, but we would also like to offer our membership the opportunity to help out to increase the total we are able to give.

It was a very beautiful, but very old building with 3 floors.  The 3rd floor completely collapsed; the second floor partially collapsed, with some floors intact but several walls, interior and exterior, missing and others severely damaged. The ground floor seems "almost OK," but cannot be used without major revisions to the entire building. This building is (or was) the TS in Chile. The members are very poor and they will not have the resources to do anything with this building.

Victor to talk in New York

Our Dunedin co-leader, Victor and his partner Sonja will be travelling to the USA and Canada in July and Victor will be speaking at the Theosophical Society in New York.

Xmas treeMid Winter Feast

Our mid winter feast, which is a major annual event, will be held on Sunday June 21st at 6pm. Bring a gift to go under the "Christmas tree" and a pot-luck contribution. As usual there will be music and entertainment throughout the evening.

2011 Convention

John McGlashen CollegeDunedin will be hosting the national convention in January 2011. We now have a venue decided at John McGlashen College. We need to keep moving forward with planning, especially seeing how we can add a Dunedin flavour to the convention. This will come up in our discussions more and more as the time comes. We want to leave as much opporutunity as possible for everyone to contribute.

Events Schedule

As well as our regular meditation, yoga, study group, healing circle and Friday evening entertainment, we have the events below. All talks are in our building at 7.00pm. Note that our study group starts at 6.00pm and runs for 50 minutes before the talk.
