Dada Jitenanda

Speaker February 3 2010

Dada JitenandaDada Jitendrananda was born in Ireland in 1958. He began practicing Yoga and Meditation in 1980, going on to study in India in 1983, where he qualified as a teacher in the Ananda Marga system. Dada has since taught in Japan (14 years) and Australia. He is currently living in New Zealand.

Yoga and Meditation

Dada explains Yoga and Meditation as a means of improving the quality of consciousness. Consciousness is the ultimate raw material – it is moulded and changed by everything we experience, which adds up to us in all our thoughts and feelings. Meditation and Yoga practice ensure that we draw consciousness directly from the source, like a pure spring, rather than downstream from town.

Dada teaches both chanting and silent meditation. He has produced a CD, Overjoy, that fuses Celtic music with the Samskrit chant, Baba Nam Kevalam, which means, ‘love is the essence’

Humanism

Dada has published a book titled ‘Here, Together, Now’, which deals with the psychology and challenges of humanism in today’s world. The book also uses PR Sarkar’s ideas on ‘Neo-Humanism’ to look at the economic system, education and community based solutions.

Prout (Progressive Utilisation Theory)

Dada first encountered the Progressive Utilisation Theory of PR Sarkar in 1980. He subsequently studied it in Copenhagen along with meditation and Yoga. Since then he has toured extensively in Japan, where interest was particularly keen in the aftermath of the economic downturn of 1990.

New Zealand

In New Zealand since 2000, Dada has been teaching meditation and yoga and has been instrumental in organising events on the theme of peoples economy, such as Globalisation or Localisation, Wellington 2001, Social Forum Aotearoa, Porirua 2004. Dada is also involved in animal welfare and organises regular vegan meet-ups in Auckland.

Dada currently manages the Ananda Marga Meditation and Yoga Centre in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Contact details: 51 Sussex St, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021. Tel: 09 9408011, 0211848642, dadajii@hotmail.com
