Welcome to 2010

2010 promises to be a good year for the Theosophical Society in Dunedin.  Our membership increased well last year and our weekly schedule is getting more and more full. You will see our weekend workshop planned for March, so we are keeping up the pace.

Picnic

We will be starting our new year with a picnic at Dave and Linda's house just out of Mosgiel on 31st January from 3pm. Head south of Dunedin on SH1, stay on it past the Mosgiel turnoff. About 1km past the Mosgiel turnoff at the settlement of East Taieri, turn right into Riccarton Road West.  The property is just over 4kms along that road.  A good landmark is the yellow sign warning of a give-way in 200m - the driveway is on the left past the sign, The Rapid Number is 413 and the property name "Broadacres" is at the entranceway. Any problems finding it call us on 4891077 or look at a map.  They will put balloons at the gate.

March Workshop

Ken Wilber We will be holding a workshop weekend on March 20/21 looking at ways of linking the work of Ken Wilber (pictured) and the Integral Institute with Theosophy. The underlying question we will be asking is "How do we live a spiritual life appropriate for Dunedin in the early 21st century?" It will be an opportunity for personal growth, and a chance to look at how we as a Theosophical Society might grow as well. We will be using the Integral Life Matrix as described in the book, Integral Life Practice. This book looks at the body, mind, spirit, shadow, ethics, work, relationships, creativity and soul as important aspects of a well functioning human being. This workshop is intended to be highly interactional. We will be practicing the aspects mentioned above not just talking about them. The concept of Integral Theosophy is very new, so the weekend is more of an exploration as to what Integral Theosophy might mean. A website has been created to give more background into the concept of Integral Theosophy at http://www.integraltheosophy.net

We would like to offer this workshop as an opportunity for Theosophists from our whole region from Christchurch south to come together and network and learn from each other. We are thinking of starting at 10am on the Saturday, to give people time to arrive and continuing through until around 9.30pm. The next day we will start around 9 or 9.30am and go through until around 2.00pm, again giving time for travelers to return home. This means we will be looking for some local people to offer billets for those traveling.

There is no cost in attending, but we thought we would make the first lunch a pot-luck and buy in a meal for the evening for $10.00 and the Sunday lunch $5.00. The workshop will be held in our rooms, so we will only be able to hold around 40 people as a maximum. You may need to register your interest early to be sure of getting a place.

If this workshop goes well, we will look at having a similar workshop in Christchurch later in the year.

National Convention in Napier

Three of our members, James, Marie and Tracey are in Napier at present attending the national convention of the Theosophical Society in New Zealand.

Theosophical Study Group

Our study group started with an enthusiastic group last year and we will be continuing this group this year. We are using a correspondence course which was developed by Vic Hao Chin in the Phillipines. You can see it and download the the course yourself at http://www.theosophy.ph/corrcourse.html The group meets in our rooms at 6.00pm on Wednesdays for 50 minutes before the Wednesday talk starting on 3 February. Contact Kerry on 4764557.
