Welcome to 2010

Our programme has begun again for 2010. It will be another busy year with all our usual activities, our weekend workshop coming up in May and hosting the next national convention in January 2011. We encourage everyone to to be a part of this journey exploring spirituality in the 21st century.

Picnic

picnicPicnicgumboot throwingWe had great weather for our picnic at Dave and Linda's house to start the year off. Some great games were included and we all had a great time. We flew kites, threw gumboots, hammered in nails and ran races with balloons between our legs.

March Workshop - Integral Theosophy

integral logoTS logoWe will be holding a workshop weekend on March 20/21 looking at ways of linking the work of Ken Wilber and the Integral Institute with Theosophy. The underlying question we will be asking is "How do we live a spiritual life appropriate for Dunedin in the early 21st century?" It will be an opportunity for personal growth, and a chance to look at how we as a Thesosophical Society might grow. We will be using the Integral Life Matrix as described in the book, Integral Life Practice. This book looks at the body, mind, spirit, shadow, ethics, work, relationships, creativity and soul as impotant aspects of a well functioning human being. This workshop is intended to be highly interactional. We will be practicing the aspects mentioned above not just talking about them. The concept of Integral Theosophy is very new, so the weekend is more of an exploration as to what Integral Theosphy might mean. A website has been created to give more background into the concept of Integral Theosophy at http://www.integraltheosophy.net

We would like to offer this workshop as an opportunity for Theosophists from our whole region from Christchurch south to come together and network and learn from each other. We are thinking of starting at 10am on the Saturday, to give people time to arrive and continuing through until around 9.30pm. The next day we will start around 9 or 9.30am and go through until around 1.00pm, again giving time for travellers to return home. This means we will be looking for some local people to offer billets for those travelling.

There is no cost in attending, but we thought we would make the first lunch a pot-luck and buy in a meal for the evening for $10.00 and the Sunday lunch $5.00. The workshop will be held in our rooms, so we will only be able to hold around 30 people as a maximum. You may need to register your interest early to be sure of getting a place.

If this workshop goes well, we will look at having a similar workshop in Christchurch later in the year.

National Convention in Napier

Three of our members, James, Marie and Tracey attended the convention in Napier recently. They met up with Theosophists from all around the country and had a good look at how a convention works, to help us as we prepare to host next year's convention.

Thesophical Study Group

Our study group started with an enthusiastic group last year and we will be continuing this group this year. We are using a correspondence course which was developed by Vic Hao Chin in the Phillipines. You can see it and download the the course youreself at http://www.theosophy.ph/corrcourse.html The group meets in our rooms at 6.00pm on Wednesdays for 50 minutes before the talk starting  on  Wednesday 7th April at 6:00 pm. Contact Kerry on 4764557.

Meeting with Christchurch Theosophists

Chch groupchchgroupA group of people including some Theosophists went to christchurch recently to watch the movie Avatar in 3D. While they were there they met up with the Christchurch Theosophical group. It was great for getting some regional networking happening and there was a power point demonstration about some of Ken Wilber's ideas as a lead up to our March workshop.

North American Indian Pipe Ceremony

pipe ceremonyAelred Edmunds will run a North American Indian pipe ceremony every month on the fourth Tuesday at 7.00pm. Those of us who attended his talk recently shared in the experience.
