Moving into 2010

We are already three months into the year. We have had some great talks by our members, which as usual generate lots of discussion. A highlight of the month was our weekend workshop on Integral Theosophy. Check out some more detail of the weekend

Emailing

We are not sure that everyone is receiving our newsletters and emails we send out. People with internet based email addresses such as gmail and yahoo often automatically block genuine emails thinking they are spam. We would contact people who may not be  receiving our emails, but of course they aren't getting our emails to know they are not getting our emails - if that makes sense. If you know anyone you thing should be receiving the newsletters, you might just like to check with them whether they are receiving emails, and if not let us know or get them to change their email settings so they don't get filtered out. the newsletter can always be viewed on our website and you can email us anytime

Games Evening

When our digital projector broke down and we could not show our video, a games evening was quickly pulled together and emails sent out. We had a great evening with pizzas brought in and a selection of games that Clinton provided. We are talking about how we can make this a regular event, perhaps monthly with different sorts of activities.

Can you help us out?

There are always things we would like help with. If you are able to help, get hold of us and let us know. We could use a help with publicity, putting up posters, keeping the website up to date, keeping our building, offering a talk, assisting with an event or whatever. We will certainly be needing all the help we can as we get closer to the time when we host the national convention next January.

Wireless Internet

We now have wirless internet working in our rooms. This will enable us to project the internet directly onto our screen to view content from the internet. For example, Murray Stentiford in Auckland will be giving us a talk over the internet from Auckland using Skype on May 26th.

Follow up to the Integral theosophy workshop

We had a fruitful talk about the follow up from the Integral theosophy weekend workshop. There was a real interest in builing a sense of community and working with the diversity we have within us. We looked in particular about our Wednesday night talks and realised it is good to expand out what they might be. As well as more academic topics we can have shared discussions, video from the internet, experiential evenings and much more. Aelred gave us a talking stick to help the discussions flow and give everyone a voice. There is plenty to explore. There is more detail on our website about what was discussed during the follow up meeting including a 10 minute video summary of the weekend back on our homepage.

Thesophical Study Group

Our study group started with an enthusiastic group last year and we will be continuing this group this year. We are using a correspondence course which was developed by Vic Hao Chin in the Phillipines. You can see it and download the the course youreself at http://www.theosophy.ph/corrcourse.html The group meets in our rooms at 6.00pm on Wednesdays for 50 minutes before the talk starting  on  Wednesday 7th April at 6:00 pm. Our national council is looking at creating a study resource for use throughout the country and is asking us for comments about the study guide prepared by the Phillipines Theosophical Society. It can be downloaded from here. We would be interested in any comments you may have.

Our Website

We have now had almost 3,500 visits to our website. They are mainly from New Zealand of course, but recent visits have been from Russia, USA, SouthAfrica, Bulgaria, and the United Arab Emirates.

North American Indian Pipe Ceremony

Aelred Edmunds told us about his North American  pipe ceremony in his recent talk at the Theosphical Society. He is interested in making the ceremony available to interested people, but has decided to run the ceremonies as occasions arise rather than on a regular basis. He does hold regular ceremonies at Carnegie Cottage on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 5.45pm. If you are interested, contact Aelred on 453 1947

Events Schedule

 As well as our regular meditation, yoga, study group, healing circle and Friday evening entertainment, we have the events below. All talks are in our building at 7.00pm. Note that our study group starts at 6.00pm and runs for 50 minutes before the talk.
