Hello,

In its meeting on Tuesday 16 November 2021 the TS Dunedin lodge committee discussed our response to the New Zealand COVID-19 Protection Framework aka Traffic Light System. Note that it was not a discussion on the reasons that led our government to introduce it.
With the different colours in the system the consequences differ whether vaccine passes are used or not. However we agreed to decide their use for all colours in general.
We knew there are some who will not come if vaccination is requested, and that there are some who will not come if vaccination is not requested.
We thought also of other groups with somewhat more vulnerable people with whom we share space and air.
We discussed the Individual’s privileges in and their responsibilities to Society.

The decision was unequivocal, 7 in favour, 1 abstention & 0 against, that we want to use vaccine passes in our meeting rooms for all activities not only for TS activities but all other groups and events including any attendees, or any people carrying out work therein.
We wanted to continue offering meetings and not cancel them altogether, and thus excluding all. We generally held the idea that it is not us excluding anyone but it is those who decide not to be vaccinated who exclude themselves.
We did not decide on a start date, waiting for further information from government on the introduction of the traffic light system. This is now supposed to happen “soon after” November 29 for all of NZ, either to red or to orange, depending on the regional vaccination rate.

This was a difficult decision in difficult times.

Keep safe and well!

TS Dunedin Lodge committee
